Residents and visitors are being urged to take care and observe warning signs as works will commence shortly at Apollo Bay beach to provide an interim measure of protection for foreshore infrastructure.
At approximately 10.30am this morning a maintenance contractor is believed to have cut a gas line at the Sebastopol depot, Ballarat.
Victoria Police, the CFA and the gas company are on site and are managing the incident. A gas plumber is also on site.
The depot has been evacuated. Neighbours and a nearby school (Ballarat Christian College) have been advised. Local roads leading to the depot have been closed as a precaution.
There are no reported injuries.
Contractors are on the way to repair the damaged gas pipe.
It is expected that staff will be able to return to the site shortly.
