The Marine Biosecurity Index adopts two key indicators used widely across the globe. Through the Port Phillip Bay Environmental Management Plan 2017-2027 (EMP), it reports on arrival of Non-Indigenous Species (NIS) into Port Phillip Bay. 12 key species are assessed in detail by their abundance, distribution and impacts as well as best management strategies such as prevention, eradication, containment or asset-based protection. The method has been developed closely with The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA)'s Marine Biosecurity team at Agriculture Victoria.
