The annual Beach Cleaning Program is an initiative to clean our beaches of non-coastal debris and rubbish such as plastic bottles, broken glass and syringes.

The program provides funding to over 30 Committees of Management, for both coastal and inland sanded areas, for undertaking beach cleaning activities during summer and autumn.

Eligible activities include:

  • cleaning sanded areas of beaches and inland waterways within the appointed  Committee of Management boundary (sand is defined as any fine granulated natural surface directly next to the water, including fine pebbles)
  • emptying rubbish bins located on sanded areas of beaches only
  • volunteer time spent cleaning beaches (the value of volunteer labour spent on beach cleaning and data collection is eligible)
  • plant charges for beach cleaning undertaken directly by the Committee of Management (non-contract cleaning only).
Who can apply?

The subsidy is available to organisations with management responsibility for coastal and inland waterway beaches.
